PMEGP : financial assistance and subsidy

PMEGP: financial assistance and subsidy. Subsidised loans and support to help workers set up their own micro enterprises, covering financial assistance, subsidy support and promoting self-employment.

The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) helps aspiring entrepreneurs establish micro enterprises in the non-farm sector. The Council helps workers understand whether they qualify, prepare the paperwork, and follow the application through to sanction.

  • Subsidy of up to 35% on the project cost, depending on category and location.
  • Who can apply: unemployed youth, self help groups, societies and trusts, aged 18 and over.
  • Project ceiling: up to ₹25 lakh for manufacturing and up to ₹10 lakh for service or trading units.
  • How it is funded: bank finance plus the subsidy plus your own contribution.

Training and placements

Free training in sewing, embroidery, weaving and painting, with placement support.

The Council runs free skills training for small-scale industry workers and their families, so that a household has a trade it can rely on. Training covers sewing, embroidery, weaving and painting, and is offered at a basic level for newcomers as well as to workers who want to improve an existing skill.

Equipment such as sewing machines is distributed at training camps, and the Council helps participants find work or set up on their own once the training is complete.

Education

Schooling for workers’ children, from basic to advanced level.

Many small-scale industry workers cannot afford to keep their children in school. The Council supports the education of workers’ children from basic schooling through to advanced levels, so that the next generation is not held back by the family’s circumstances.

Awareness sessions are held in the community to explain which government education schemes a family is entitled to, and the Council assists with the paperwork needed to claim them.

Survey works

Field survey projects covering elections, door numbering and name board mapping.

The Council carries out field survey work through a trained team of survey executives across India. This work creates paid opportunities for workers while producing data that public bodies and organisations rely on.

Election surveys — statistical analysis of voting trends and key and swing constituencies, collected by more than 250 survey executives across various regions of India.

Name board and door numbering surveys — survey and mapping of name boards for homes, offices and municipal areas, along with planning, designing and auditing of signage.
